New House

Last summer my husband Tim and I moved to a new place. It’s a ranch style home and we love it. One of the attractions which I fell in love with is a fish pond right off the porch.

Last year the water was a mess. It was thick with green algae. We have been working with it hoping to get it cleaner and so far it’s been a success. My step son has been helping a lot with it too. He’s rearranged the rocks and when it was partially drained he wiped up the algae. It has come back but now we have a filter. The pond sat immobile for over 2 years and you can only imagine our surprise when I saw a gold fish and seven other black type fish swimming around in the green muck.

This year, Tim has added to the family six more gold fish and Rodney two dozen shiner type fish. We also get visited by frogs. There is a male who has been calling in mates. He is quite the singer and very loud.

You can see the muck he’s in. These photos are from last year.

They’re pretty fun to watch too but I’m dreading the babies that will probably be coming. I’ll keep you all informed on the outcome of that situation.

Oh yes. The pump is running sending water trickling over the rocks. It’s so relaxing. Now for nice warm nights so I can sit outside and listen to it.

Weddings

Wow, it’s been a while since I’ve been on to blog. I was thinking about hobbies and one of my favorites is photography. I know, you’re probably saying, “I knew that.” But does everyone know that I do weddings? I have been doing them since the middle 1980′s. Yes, I began with a film camera. I have had a few mentors too helping me with pointers, etc. and I thank you.

I mainly receive my jobs through word of mouth but am now considering advertising. Yikes!! That in itself is a frightening thought. My friends all tell me I’m nuts for not doing this, weddings, since I’m so good at it. They also say, why work somewhere or do something you don’t like if you have this kind of talent?

I’d like to let my friends know, your words aren’t falling on deaf ears…just took some time to knock some sense into me though.

Why I’m writing this is to see just what people do think. I know…..I need that kick again.

I own a notorious dog. One that, as I’ve been told, is hyper, mean, and likes to jump all the time. Yes, I own a dreaded Jack Russell Terrior or as her Vet, Dr. Altmeyer called her on the first visit, “Jack Russell Terror.”
I’m not quite sure why people distinguish this with her breed but my little girl is different. She was the runt of the litter, always being pushed around by her siblings. The night we went to look at the puppies, she was laying all alone on a blanket while the others were roughing things up. I sat down on the floor watching them, laughing and loving their antics and soon I felt this puppy trying to climb onto my lap and each time a bigger brother would run to us and knock her over. With her head down, she’d go back to her blanket. Once she saw the coast temporarily clear, she’d try again to climb on my lap only to get rushed at and knocked over.
Finally, I stated, I like this one. My husband Tim asked, “Are you sure? She just lays around.” I answered, “Yep, She’s mine.” (More to come)

Classic Car 1954 BelAir

My stepfather, Bob, brought to the marriage a 1954 Bel Air which he bought from a barn in Indiana County, Pennsylvania in 1974. I guess it hasn’t run since he bought it but he’s not sure about the time before.

This is the car in primer, just coming back from the paint shop so that they can work on the brakes and engine. My husband Tim spent many hours on the internet browsing through all of the web sites selling classic car parts. Finally, after about two weeks he found the disc brakes. It didn’t take long for him to get them installed and have the baby running.

The fog look is fumes from the exhaust. I know, wow but they were happy campers. Soon the car went back to the garage for painting.

All the time she sat in the garage and the men worked on it, my mom referred to it as, “That old thing.” or “Why would I want to be seen in an old car?” While she was at the garage, I guess people who visited to talk with John, the painter was very impressed with her and often called friends over to, “Just look at her!” Meanwhile, mom kept referring to the old car…etc. Well I told her I have dibbs on her Friday evenings to Monday mornings, they get her the rest of the week. Mom didn’t car until……the finished product returned home.

Now she isn’t sure I get it on weekends. LOL The story continues later.

Memorial Day Festivities

I hope everyone had a good Memorial Day and please remember the reason, to give thanks to those who have fought for our rights and freedom. My father fought in WWII and was involved with the Battle of the Bulge. I vaguely remember his stories but mainly they were all frightened when they would hear the incoming bombs since his job was to guard the fuel supply and the enemy wanted to either destroy it or get it for themselves. My main memory is that my father, Allen K. Smail trained guard dogs. His dog was named Wolf.

Hello and welcome to my stuff’s page. I’m just learning what all goes on, how to maneuver through the many buttons and etc. My brother, Larry Smail got me interested on this sight. I’m actually ashamed to admit that he is on here before I am since he is really computer illiterate but I guess someone needs to lead the way.

Until I learn how to add photos the page will be pretty boring. I’m hoping to soon get more on and once I do please feel free to add comments to my stuff page! Until then I shall ttyl!
